Stocklands vineyard is situated in Somerset on the Greenhill Estate. The vines were planted in 2008 in a warm, sheltered, south facing position on clay soil over a limestone strata – the perfect recipe for growing delicious grapes! We have two acres of Chardonnay & Pinot Noir vines and produce a small quantity of high quality red & white wines.
We are Mark and Jenny Thorp. In 2013 we were offered the opportunity to run this lovely vineyard, and jumped at the chance. Having farmed all our lives we had many transferable skills applicable to looking after a vineyard and producing good grapes. You can now sample our efforts. Steve Brooksbank, a well known and experienced wine maker based at Shepton Mallet, with many award winning wines to his name, has produced all Stocklands wines to date.
Three years into managing Stocklands Vineyard we can confirm our original thoughts that this is truly a quality site. After pruning the vines into a working condition and trying to achieve an optimum leaf to fruit balance, we have reduced the incidence of mildew attack and delivered fine samples of clean fruit to the winery.
We have entered all of our wines to date in the South West Vineyards Association’s annual competition, receiving awards for each and winning the trophy for best red wine in show with our 2014 Pinot Noir. We are looking forward to the results of the 2016 harvest with excited anticipation.
